This Week #24 (2-15-04)
Busy Inattentiveness
Are we ever busy, or what? It seems we have never had so much to do and so
little time to do it. And no matter how hard we work and concentrate on
getting it done, there is always more.
I am sure that is the way of this world. Unfortunately, the busier we
become the more inattentive we are to those things that are infinitely
important. We seem to be able to allow more time for work, when we really
need to. We are forced to find more time to sleep and rest when our bodies
are dragged out to the point that we cannot concentrate any more. We even
find time to take a few days of vacation, even though for many or most,
the work is never quite put away.
What we do not find time for in our busy lives is relationship building
with the Father. Whenever time grows short, we move further away from,
rather than closer to, an intimate walk with the Lord. When there is too
much work to complete in the time allotted, and when we are so busy that
we cannot see straight, we shortchange our lives by limiting our exposure
to His design, His grace, and His Church. In short, we become inattentive
to Him and His Bride.
We know how it feels to experience inattention. Sometimes it is our
spouse, our parents, our teachers, our kids who have no time for us. I
sometime wonder how the Father feels when we become too busy to
acknowledge His leadership, mercy, and grace in our lives. What does He
think when we have no time to pray, or to spend reading the llove letter
He has sent to us? Does He feel neglected when we fail to find time for
simple communication, or cannot break loose long enough to minister to His
family?
Hebrews 12:12-14 speaks of renewing our Spiritual vitality. Let’s make
sure that is an area we are never too busy to pursue.
