 Danger Ahead!

Have you ever seen a highway sign that says, “Danger Ahead?” I have, and I always pay a little closer attention than I might otherwise.  Sometimes it is nothing more than a work crew on the road, or a fallen rock that has encroached on the roadway. It may be a place where animals are known to cross and striking them with your car can be deadly for both you and the animal.  I have seen the sign and subsequently found nothing dangerous along the way. . .at least that I saw.

I believe along the highway of life someone needs to be putting out “Danger Ahead” signs. I don’t know if this world is more dangerous now than it was last year, or last decade, but it seems so, and danger is certainly more apparent now than in times past.

We are living in a time when humanistic philosophies are running wild. The moral absolutes of Scripture are being discarded by a nation founded on those very principles. We are being told on every hand that the Truth of old is irrelevant, unimportant, and useless in the face of an enlightened society. We are asked now to accept that which once we only tolerated after we became too weak to stand the pressure of maintaining the Truth

Toleration has become acceptance because we invariably move in the direction of least resistance when we are following something other than the revealed Truth of God’s Word. If we concede in the slightest manner that which we know to be True, right and good, the battle is in danger of being lost.

I suppose I could give you a list. 2 Timothy 3:13 is becoming a focused reality in our lives. But you probably don’t need a list. What we do need is the courage, the intestinal fortitude, the commitment to “continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. . .that from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise. . .” (2 Timothy 3-14-15)
