Resurrection Sunday
It’s the big day for some. This
day, perhaps along with Christmas Eve or some date in that timeframe,
people head for Church. I’m just wondering why. I don’t think people
“dress up” like they used to, so it must not be to show off a new outfit.
It’s a holiday of course, but there are lots of holidays. Maybe those who
come only (or nearly only) on this day do so for a personal reason. I just
don’t understand.
We celebrate the resurrection of the
Savior on this Sunday. But we celebrate it every Sunday. We talk about the
power of the risen Lord to radically create a new person out of an old
selfish one, to bring peace, joy, llove to one’s walk, the value of a
disciplined life, and the call to ministry. But we do that every Sunday.
The fact is, there is no difference in
this Sunday or the last, or any other one, really. Thank goodness we don’t
have a sunrise service every Sunday (I like 6:45pm, but 6:45am is a tough
time). But other than that, it seems to me it is about the same.
In the book of Hebrews, chapter 10,
verses 24-25, we are encourage to consider one another in order to stir
up llove and good works, by the process of assembling ourselves
together, rather than forsaking that command.
On Resurrection Sunday, here at Shady
Grove, we are going to do some considering and some stirring. We are going
to exhort one another toward all those things that resurrection is
about. We will do it with enthusiasm and joy. We will do it with vitality
and vision. We will do it faithfully and truthfully.
And you know what? We will do that every Sunday. Week in and week out we
will work together to become what is our calling in the resurrection power
of Jesus Christ in our lives. Don’t forsake that! We’re coming down to the
end of this thing we call life, individually or collectively. Let’s get
ready as we see the Day approaching.
