This Week #17 (12-28-03)

The New Year

Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas? Good! I mean, if you did that is wonderful, and if you didn’t that will leave something to look forward to in the coming months.

As we face the new year, we have a tendency to focus on the past year and all that we have achieved or failed to achieve. It may be a worthwhile process. But what is certainly better is to look forward to the possibilities of 2004. Once again a clean slate, as far as success is concerned, is spread out before us. We have not made any mistakes, no failures dog our path, and unlimited triumph is available. That may seem like hyperbole, but only because we keep remembering and/or reviewing the past.

One of the principles we must learn and apply is that past failure to be obedient to the call, design, walk, and leadership of His spirit is not binding or restrictive in our lives from this day forward. We can begin again with an open heart and a hearing ear the journey of obedience that leads to victory in the details of life.

We have tasted that victory! We have smelled the sweetness of spiritual success! We have heard His voice and followed Him. We have crossed from darkness to incredible light! We are His chosen generation, His peculiar people, a royal family of believers who have limitless grace, unfathomable llove, sufficiency in all things, peace surpassing understanding, and joy that comes from daily new mercies!

Nothing stands in our way! Even the gates of Hell cannot prevail against us! Yet all of those words are just words if we allow lethargy and apathy to invade our lives and dull our hearing, and fill our ears with the sounds that drown out the still, small voice.

It’s a new year! Of what are we capable? We can’t possibly know! But we can find out! Let’s do it!!
